If you are using twitter to brand yourself or your business I highly recommend having a professional background that will allow you to promote yourself better. Using a personalized background image you can include more information about yourself in your background than twitter allows you to in your description.
You also can include personal information that you might want to share with others like your website url, YouTube profile or any additional web site links. You can even use a personal picture as your background.
The reason you should do that is obvious. Increasing your brand visibility. If you are using twitter and still use a normal background just do some research on free twitter background designers. There are plenty of free tools out there which will help you change your background.

In order to have a great looking background you can do the following. Just open up your twitter account and print the screen. Once you have done that paste it into PhotoShop or any other image editing software. Now you see the white box with all the tweets in the middle and you can design the background around that.
I do recommend including a personal image and some more information about yourself on either side of the page. You actually can put content on the left and right hand side of your twitter image...
