The money is in the list. At least that's what all the gurus say. Well, the truth is, the money is in a list that is built on a solid foundation and treated properly. You can have a list of 100,000 prospects and not make a dime from them while a list if 5,000 can make you thousands monthly. It all comes down to how that list was built. This article is going to share three killer list building tips that should have you putting together an opt in list that will be responsive and profitable for a long time to come.
1. At the very top of the list, pardon the pun, is targeting. You want to make sure that the offer you make to your list is as highly targeted as possible in order to get them to opt in to begin with. In other words, you need to know EXACTLY what it is these people are looking for based on the keywords and keyword phrases that they're using to search for whatever it is they're looking for. For example, if you're targeting people who are looking for "pay per click tips" then a good idea would be to put together a free report with your best pay per click tips in order to get them to opt in. Sounds like common sense, but you'll be surprised how many people don't do this.
2. Next thing you want to do is make sure you have a solid followup series after you give away your free report, which by the way should have a link to your offer inside of it. Your followup series should be a minimum of seven emails. Why seven? Statistics show that it takes a person an average of seven times to see your web page before they become a buyer. So the free report alone isn't going to be enough to get them to dig into their wallets. You're going to need more than that...and a seven part autoresponder series should do the trick nicely. That's not to say you can't have more than seven followups. Some newsletters have as many as 50 to 100 followups...if not more.
3. Finally, and this may be the most important thing of all, when you do have your list built, don't pitch them to death. You want to provide them with quality information so that they feel like they are actually getting a benefit from being on your list. If they don't, they're going to unsubscribe and you're going to end up just cycling through members and not getting anywhere.
List building and list management is an art that takes time and care. If you concentrate on carefully targeting your prospects, giving them what they're looking for, following up with them regularly and not pitching to them constantly, you have a good chance of building a list that is going to be responsive and profitable.
